Department Purpose
The Division of Medical & Behavioral Health provides instruction in Behavioral Health, Medical Assistant, Nurse Aide, Nursing, Psychiatric Technician, and Surgical Technology.
Position Summary
The Coordinator of Academic Support provides intensive assistance to Behavioral Health (BEH) students to include tutoring, referrals, mentoring, career exploration, and transfer activities. The Coordinator creates educational action plans (EAPs) and provides transfer and workforce coaching.
In accordance with Colorado Revised Statutes 24-50-135, this position has been exempted from the State Personnel System.
Salary is $55,000-82,500 depending on education and experience. This is a grant-funded position.
PERA retirees are not eligible for this position except on an interim basis and in accordance with workday provisions established by PERA.
Job Duties
Essential Functions
- Initiates and coordinates a comprehensive student advising process for all BEH students.
- Provides academic advising services to maximize persistence of students.
- Assists students create a personal development/Educational Action Plan for each semester.
- Assists students identify their strengths, interests, and abilities, and explains how these areas relate to BEH majors/careers.
- Assists students with exploring career options and preparing for the workforce.
- Assists in financial aid, career, and transfer services.
- Leads retention programs and activities, including tracking student progress in courses.
- Reviews and interprets academic skills and assessment to determine appropriate course placement.
- Leverages technological tools, including Banner Student Information System, Degree Check, EAB Navigate, and Student database.
- Maintains student files, records, and data in accordance with federal, state, system, and college operating procedures and protocols.
- Identifies activities or resources to foster student academic persistence and success.
- Prepares and disseminates retention data reports.
- Researches and provides best-practice retention strategies to the BEH Department Team.
- Initiates and processes EAB Navigate progress report campaigns.
- Uses Early Alert system to monitor student class status and any issues/concerns reported by faculty or instructors.
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates the performance of hourly student employees, including Peer Mentors, and tutors in the execution of program services.
- Prepares and maintains the BEH Student database.
- Coordinates the submission of required information and reports according to the Department of Education Annual Performance Report timeline.
- Develops and leads workshops that enhance soft skills, study skills, mental health, career opportunities, advising and retention initiatives for the BEH program, including Orientations.
- Assists with programming in financial literacy, transfer assistance, career exploration and preparation, student success workshops, and academic, cultural, and career enrichment activities.

- Assesses individual and department work processes and recommends improvements.
- Complies with State Fiscal Rules, State Board policies, System and College protocols, and departmental procedures.
- Obtains and maintains proficiency with the required systems and equipment.
- Maintains confidentiality of student and employee information as required.
- Completes all required compliance training within the established timeline.
- Serves on committees and other groups assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Experience
- Three years working in higher education or with disadvantaged adults and/or youth.
- Demonstrated experience successfully building, fostering, and maintaining educational and institutional relationships.
- Experience in Behavioral Health, working in a Behavioral Health field or working with Behavioral Health students.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of laws, accreditation standards, and best practices pertaining to student advising, career planning, curriculum mapping, and BEH occupations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; working knowledge of Ellucian Banner and EAB Navigate.
- Able to lift 15 pounds.
- Able to read and communicate in English.
- Mobility around campus.
Travel
- Fremont or Mancos, CO locations
- Conferences within or outside of Colorado
Schedule
- Weekdays (State business hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm)
- Infrequent weekend and/or evening hours required
