Position Title: Metrology Technician
Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract opportunity located in Redmond, WA.
Job Responsibilities:
- Set up, operate, and maintain precision CNC and manual machining equipment to achieve tight dimensional and form tolerances
- Perform in-process and final inspection using precision measurement tools including CMMs, profilometers, interferometers, and surface plate instruments
- Interpret and execute from engineering drawings, GD&T specifications, and verbal work orders
- Work closely with engineering teams to troubleshoot process challenges and optimize machining parameters
- Maintain documentation of setups, tool offsets, inspection results, and process variations
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts in yield, cycle time, and process consistency
- Operate within strict cleanliness and contamination-control standards appropriate to optical-grade fabrication.
- 3–5 years of hands-on precision machining experience in a production or R&D environment
- Strong mechanical aptitude with a solid grasp of machining fundamentals (speeds, feeds, tooling, fixturing, chip load, surface finish)
- Demonstrated metrology experience — proficient with precision measurement tools and comfortable holding micron-level tolerances
- Proven ability to machine to micron-class tolerances with repeatability and documentation.
- Diamond turning or single-point diamond turning (SPDT) experience — particularly on freeform or rotationally symmetric optical surfaces
- Background in optical component fabrication (lenses, mirrors, windows, prisms, or similar)
- Experience operating Nanotech or Moore Nanotechnology ultra-precision lathes or grinders
- CNC programming proficiency — G-code authoring and/or CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, or equivalent)
- Familiarity with interferometric surface measurement and wavefront error interpretation.

- Pay Rate Range: $45-60/hr.
