Position Title: Lab Engineer
Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract opportunity located in Redmond, WA.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform hands-on cable harness assembly and termination per IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards, including twisted pairs, shields, and metal over-braids per engineering drawings and specifications (e.g., Glenair connectors, D-Sub connectors).
- Execute PCB assembly, soldering, and rework operations per IPC-J-STD-001 standards, including installation and removal of ICs, diodes, resistors, capacitors, and other components.
- Perform PCBA rework and repair per IPC-7711/7721 standards for component removal, replacement, and board repair.
- Configure and test power supplies, including AC/DC wiring with proper terminations (ring terminals, BNA jacks), voltage measurement, calibration, and troubleshooting.
- Source and procure lab components and materials, including researching pricing and availability for connectors, wire, hardware, and test equipment.
- Develop automation solutions and scripts to improve efficiency, repeatability, and scalability of lab testing and validation workflows.
- Build frameworks and tools that integrate hardware platforms with software test environments to enable complex system-level debugging.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, firmware, and software teams to streamline validation and troubleshooting processes.
- Identify bottlenecks in lab workflows and implement process improvements through hands-on modifications and automation.
- Document assembly procedures, rework processes, automation tools, and operational workflows to ensure knowledge continuity and best practices.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with cable harness assembly, wire termination, and connector installation (D-Sub, Glenair, or similar connectors).
- Proficiency in PCB soldering and rework, including surface mount and through-hole components.
- Experience with power supply configuration, wiring, and electrical measurements.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Programming and scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash, or similar) to develop automation tools for testing workflows.
- Understanding of lab instrumentation, test equipment, and validation workflows.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex hardware and software integration issues.
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification for cable and wire harness assemblies.
- IPC-J-STD-001 certification for soldered electrical and electronic assemblies.
- IPC-7711/7721 certification for rework, modification, and repair of electronic assemblies.
- Experience working in high-growth or rapidly scaling lab environments.
- Experience with component sourcing, vendor management, and inventory control.
- Familiarity with ESD protocols and cleanroom procedures.
- Experience developing automation frameworks or infrastructure for testing environments.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines for hardware validation.
- Experience with embedded systems or firmware validation.
- Familiarity with hardware-software integration and system-level debugging.

- Pay Rate Range: $50-65/hr.
