Overview
The Production Supervisor, Coatings & Linings, directs and coordinates the Pipe Finishing production department, including manual industrial coatings and cement mortar lining (this role does not include powder coating).
This position ensures production efficiency, quality compliance, and smooth operations while leading the Pipe Finishing crews under the guidance of the Fab Shop Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare daily operational schedules and coordinate manufacturing activities for Pipe Lining, manual coating, and Finishing crews.
- Review production and operating reports; resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance issues to minimize costs and delays.
- Inspect machines and equipment; report maintenance needs to ensure optimal performance.
- Train, assist, and supervise hourly employees to maintain quality and productivity.
- Resolve employee issues or escalate to HR/Fab Shop Manager as needed.
- Review work orders to estimate labor hours and create efficient schedules.
- Determine material requirements and requisition supplies from Purchasing.
- Confer with crew operators to monitor work progress and implement process changes.
- Suggest operational improvements to increase efficiency and safety.
- Read and interpret customer specifications and drawings to set up Pipe Finishing operations correctly.
- Oversee repairs or replacement of defective parts.
- Compile, store, and retrieve production data.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without accommodation.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting safety rules, operating instructions, manuals, pipe drawings, and specification sheets.
- Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, and communicate effectively with managers and groups.
- Strong math skills: fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, area, volume, algebra, and geometry.
- Able to solve practical problems and handle complex variables in non-standard situations.
- Proficient in Manufacturing software, Project Management software, spreadsheets, and word processing.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Professionalism under pressure and strong teamwork skills.
- Ability to operate computer-controlled panels and interpret console indicators/gauges.
Essential Physical Requirements
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and high-pressure equipment.
- Frequent transitions between indoor and outdoor environments; must be physically active throughout the shift.
- Exposure to wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic/caustic chemicals, outside weather, and vibration.
- Loud work environment requiring hearing protection.
