We’re hiring an Executive Director & Insurance Fund Administrator in Augusta, Maine, to lead insurance operations for a workers’ compensation organization. This Executive Director role leads a high-performing workers’ compensation organization, overseeing an insurance fund and driving strategy across underwriting, claims, risk management, and finance. The position also provides strategic leadership, financial oversight, and ensures strict regulatory compliance with Maine Bureau of Insurance requirements.
The role is accountable for driving strategy, strengthening financial performance, and ensuring operational excellence across all areas of the organization. Key Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of workers’ compensation operations including underwriting, claims, finance, HR, and IT
- Drive financial management including budgeting, audits, claim reserving, and collaboration with actuaries
- Develop and execute strategic plans in partnership with the Board of Trustees
- Maintain compliance with Maine workers’ compensation laws and Bureau of Insurance requirements
- Build and manage relationships with vendors, auditors, regulators, and stakeholders
- Recruit, develop, and lead high-performing teams while fostering accountability and performance
Required Qualifications
- Strong leadership experience in insurance, risk management, or workers’ compensation
- Experience working with the Bureau of Insurance or similar regulatory bodies
- Expertise in financial management, workers’ compensation claims oversight, and underwriting operations
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to operate strategically while managing complex operational details
Preferred Qualifications
Workers’ compensation expertise, CPCU designation, Maine adjuster license, or background in healthcare or self-insured groups
