Human Resources Manager
Wine Industry | Napa Valley | Full-Time, Exempt
A well-established wine organization in Napa Valley is seeking a hands-on Human Resources Manager to lead all HR functions, including policies and procedures, benefits and payroll administration, talent acquisition and retention, employee relations, and health and safety. The role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws while supporting a diverse workforce that includes a high percentage of Spanish-speaking, seasonal employees. This is a trusted, relationship-driven role — the ideal candidate is fully bilingual in English and Spanish and comfortable communicating policies, resolving employee concerns, and delivering training in both languages. The position manages a small team of 2–3, including payroll and safety.
HR Leadership & Employee Relations
● Serve as the HR point of contact for employees and managers; develop, translate, and enforce company policies and the employee handbook
● Advise leadership on employee relations, performance management, and organizational issues
● Support managers with coaching, feedback, and corrective action; lead investigations, documentation, and resolution of workplace issues
● Oversee performance review processes and development planning
● Manage HR vendor relationships, including HRIS and benefits brokers
Payroll, Benefits & Compensation
● Own payroll accuracy, compliance, and timeliness, including review of timekeeping, piece-rate tracking, and wage calculations
● Communicate pay structures and benefits clearly in both English and Spanish
● Administer benefits programs (enrollments, terminations, changes) and partner with brokers/vendors on renewals and communications
● Support compensation benchmarking and pay structure updates
Health, Safety & Compliance
● Ensure compliance with Cal/OSHA standards and California wage and hour regulations (meal/rest breaks, overtime)
● Own Workers' Compensation administration and claims management
● Oversee safety programs and training
● Manage leaves of absence, including FMLA, state leave programs, and accommodations
● Maintain compliant employee documentation (I-9, personnel records) and applicable federal program compliance
Recruitment & Workforce Planning
● Develop and implement recruitment strategies for seasonal and year-round employees
● Conduct interviews, onboarding, and orientation in both English and Spanish
● Partner with management to maintain appropriate workforce levels
Qualifications
● 5 years of Human Resources experience, including at least 2 years in an HR leadership role
● Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (written and verbal) required
● Wine industry experience preferred
● Strong knowledge of state and federal HR/labor laws
● Proficiency with HRIS/payroll platforms (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, UKG, or Paycom) and Microsoft Office
● High degree of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
● Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to work independently with limited supervision
Compensation & Benefits
● Base salary in the $110,000–$120,000 range, depending on experience
