What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Professional Employment Group of Colorado?
The ideal candidate will be detail oriented with strong prioritization (multi-tasking), organization and communication skills. The ability to meet deadlines in a short time frame is also a must. It is important for this person to be able to have outstanding organizational skills and be able to achieve results in a stressful environment. This person will be responsible for developing accurate and reliable estimates for multiple, simultaneous projects.
Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:
- Understanding of CSI, Masterformat and Uniformat
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Preferred Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of experience in heavy-civil construction or mining estimating.
- Operations/field experience is a plus
- Good understanding of heavy-civil construction means/methods and equipment selection
- Experience with heavy-industrial/mechanical installations a plus (i.e. crushers, conveyors, pump stations, structural concrete, etc…)
- Proficient in developing estimates for self-performed work, including but not limited to mass excavation, underground utilities, clearing & grubbing, rock crushing & screening
- Demonstrable experience in roles of increasing responsibility in commercial construction estimating
- Familiarity with Building Connected, Agtek, and B2W Estimating software
- Strong hard bid estimating skills and/or strong conceptual estimating skills
- Ability to independently develop complete estimates
- Ability to participate in job walks and pre-bid meetings
- Some overnight travel may be required, depending on project location
Primary Job Functions:
- Developing and managing estimates on multiple, simultaneous projects from Concept to GMP or hard bid
- Manage estimating teams in the development of accurate estimates
- Develop, communicate and manage expectations of estimating teams
- Balance workload and assignments among estimators to meet deadlines
- Work with clients and design teams
- Lead and participate in accurate quantity take-off and detailed estimates
- Develop a plan for satisfying small business goals when required
- Coordinate the completion of all client deliverables for estimates to insure consistency
- Coordinate with operations teams to ensure estimates and assumptions meet project requirements
- Identify appropriate trade contractors and develop sub lists for budgets, bids and RFPs
- Develop bid tabulations and indirect cost estimates/proposals for General Conditions/Requirements/Fees/Permits/etc. on negotiated and hard bid projects
- Proficient in all trade scope review and identifying high risk issues on projects
- Ability to independently develop accurate detailed self-perform estimates
- Collaboratively develop cost strategies to meet client budget needs
- Mentoring and developing estimators
- Support preconstruction efforts of multiple office locations
