A school district in the Anoka-Hennepin area of Minnesota is seeking an onsite Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS) for the 20252026 school year. This contract position begins January 5, 2026, and runs through June 5, 2026, with typical hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:10 p.m. (approximately 18.75 hours per week). The role supports four elementary schools across Ramsey, Blaine, and Andover.
This position involves collaborating closely with another BIS and a Special Education Administrator to provide behavioral support services. Candidates must hold a valid BCBA certification or be a Special Education teacher with a Tier 3 or 4 license; Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) do not qualify.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct functional behavior assessments and develop positive behavior intervention plans tailored to student needs
- Provide direct implementation and support of behavioral strategies, including de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement
- Collaborate with school teams to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that comply with district and federal guidelines
- Deliver training and consultation to school staff regarding behavioral interventions and supports
- Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment for students and staff
- Use data-driven approaches to guide programming decisions and monitor student progress
- Respond calmly and effectively to crisis situations
- Ensure adherence to school policies, administrative practices, and student and staff handbooks
- Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid BCBA certification or Tier 3/4 Special Education teaching license
- Experience conducting functional behavior assessments and implementing behavioral interventions in a school setting
- Ability to work cooperatively with school teams and communicate effectively
- Strong skills in crisis management and maintaining safe environments for students
