Your New Role: Fiber Splicer
Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be crucial in the construction and activation of our next-generation communication systems. Your work will involve both aerial and underground construction techniques, focusing on the precise splicing and testing of fiber optic cable and related devices.
Key Responsibilities: Precision & Activation
- Splicing & Installation: Perform fiber optic splicing, installing all necessary passive and active devices, enclosures, and term panels.
- Reading & Interpretation: Accurately read and interpret work orders, engineering drawings, specifications, and/or cut sheets to determine the required work sequence.
- Cable Placement: Participate in pulling fiber optic cable through existing ducts or conduit, utilizing manual, mechanical, or blowing techniques for both aerial and underground lines.
- Testing & Certification: Test fiber optic lines for continuity and balanced signal using specialized equipment like light meters and OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer).
- Optimization & Repair: Repair or splice in new line as needed to complete project testing and certification; optimize new nodes and splice in node splits to reduce capacity.
- Aerial Work: Learn and utilize bucket trucks or safely climb utility poles to place cables according to system design (Prior bucket truck/aerial work is a plus).
- Documentation & Safety: Close projects by completing production sheets, verifying proper levels after activation, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring all work complies with safety standards and governmental orders.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 2β5 years of experience in fiber optic splicing.
- Attitude: A positive, can-do attitude, and an openness to learning and adapting to new methods.

- Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift and/or pull up to 80 pounds several times a day.
- Must be able to use standard hand tools (screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, drills).
- Basic Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license, and successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Teamwork: Able to communicate professionally and work effectively both individually and as part of a team.
