Position Overview
Prime Power Inc. is seeking a motivated and technically experienced Project Engineer to support the development, engineering, and execution of natural gas power generation projects. This individual will work closely with the VP of Development & Engineering to manage relationships with OEM equipment suppliers, engineering consultants, and EPC contractors throughout all project phases — from early-stage development through notice to proceed (NTP) and construction.
The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in mechanical or electrical engineering, hands-on experience with natural gas generation systems, and a track record of managing multi-party project teams. Experience in project development — including site evaluation, permitting, interconnection, and contract management — is highly valued. Also experience with Solar PV and BESS systems will be of additional value.
The candidate will be joining a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where contributions directly shape company strategy and growth. As a smaller, growing team, Prime Power may ask the candidate to perform some duties outside of the listed responsibilities below.
Key Responsibilities
OEM Relationship Management
• Identify, evaluate, and maintain relationships with equipment OEMs including natural gas generators, BESS, switchgear, transformers, and ancillary power systems
• Lead technical discussions and negotiations with OEM vendors on equipment specifications, lead times, warranties, and commercial terms
• Track equipment procurement milestones and coordinate with OEMs to align delivery schedules with project timelines
• Evaluate new OEM technologies and provide recommendations on equipment selection to optimize performance and cost
EPC & Engineering Contractor Management
• Assist in managing relationships with engineering consultants and EPC contractors from project inception through construction and commissioning
• Issue and manage Requests for Proposal (RFPs) for engineering services and EPC contracts; evaluate bids and make award recommendations
• Review and approve engineering deliverables including feasibility studies, design drawings, specifications, and construction documents
• Monitor contractor performance and proactively identify and resolve technical and schedule issues
Technical Engineering Support
• Review engineering analyses including equipment sizing, heat balance studies, single-line diagrams, and economic dispatch models
• Evaluate combined heat and power (CHP) and power generation configurations for technical performance and project economics
• Support development of project proformas by providing detailed cost inputs, equipment performance data, and energy production estimates
• Research and assess emerging technologies relevant to power generation including natural gas, battery storage, and carbon capture
Stakeholder Coordination & Communication
• Coordinate with internal finance, legal, and development teams to advance projects through key decision gates
• Prepare and deliver executive-level briefing materials and technical presentations to internal and external stakeholders
• Represent Prime Power at industry conferences, trade shows, and stakeholder meetings to build brand presence and deepen industry relationships
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical field
• 5 years of professional experience in project engineering, project development, or design engineering within the power generation or energy industry
• Demonstrated experience with natural gas power generation systems (combustion turbines, reciprocating engines, CHP plants, or similar)
• Experience managing OEM vendors and/or EPC contractors on energy infrastructure projects
• Familiarity with the full project development lifecycle: site selection, permitting, interconnection, engineering, and construction management
• Strong analytical skills; ability to perform and interpret engineering calculations, energy models, and life cycle cost analyses
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce both technical and executive-level documents and presentations
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; working knowledge of project management tools and scheduling software
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with ERCOT, MISO, SPP, or PJM interconnection processes
• Background in combined heat and power (CHP), microgrids, or distributed energy resource (DER) projects
• Experience supporting critical infrastructure clients such as data centers, federal facilities, or industrial customers
• Familiarity with natural gas pipeline coordination, fuel supply agreements, and high-voltage transmission systems
• Experience with project finance structures and the ability to contribute to project economic models and proformas
• Working knowledge of energy storage (BESS) systems and hybrid power project configurations
