Compensation: $100k - $130k plus Bonus and Full Benefit Package -- Relocation may be offered.
Job Description:
The Construction Project Cost Accountant / Analyst function is not a back-office accounting role. It is a high-visibility, high-accountability position with direct operational exposure and impact on project performance. The role is embedded directly in operations and supports the financial health of active construction projects from setup through closeout using Vista by Viewpoint. Responsibilities include importing estimates, aligning budgets with how jobs are actually run, reviewing weekly job costs, managing subcontracts, pay applications, change orders, customer billings, and continuously reforecasting projects as conditions change. Senior-level responsibilities focus on ownership, forecasting, and PM partnership. This role works closely with Project Managers and field teams to identify cost risks early, maintain accurate forecasts, protect margins, and support timely, informed decision-making.
Job Description
- Import/conform estimating new job files into accounting system (Vista by Viewpoint)
- Review & analyze weekly job activities in budget environment
- Write subcontracts, review/process subcontractor bills, & reconcile in job-cost budget system
- Administrate pay applications to customers and process/reforecast change orders from Project Management Department
- Interface with field operations and management to reforecast job budgets and provide feedback
- Managing project budgets, forecasting future costs, and identifying potential cost overruns.
- Monitoring project expenses against the budget, analyzing variances, and investigating discrepancies.
- Managing project invoices, ensuring accurate billing practices.
- Reviewing and approving vendor invoices, managing accounts payable related to project costs.
- Conducting financial analysis to assess project profitability, identify areas for cost optimization, and inform decision-making.
- Working closely with project managers to understand project scope, timelines, and deliverables, providing financial insights to support project execution.
- Ensuring adherence to established accounting standards and company policies related to project accounting.
- Miscellaneous accounting duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and/or a combination of job experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products with emphasis on Excel & Outlook
- Vista by Viewpoint or related construction/accounting software experience
- Ability to work in multiple companies & module environments in accounting software
- 3 years prior experience as an accountant/analyst in the construction industry preferred
- Communication skills to effectively collaborate with project teams and management Deadline driven & able to work on several tasks as needed
- Proficiency in project management methodologies
