SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for providing professional care for Bariatric patients following established standards approved by Premier Physicians. Assists physicians and staff in coordinating patient diet plans, education and support.
REPORTS TO: Office Manager
SUPERVISES: None
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Coordinates with hospital dietary department for diet planning of the Bariatric Patients. Participates in education of the floor nurses regarding bariatric diets.
2. Participates in the coordination and presentation of all Bariatric Educational Programs.
3. Participates in and presents educational programs to support groups.
4. Evaluates supports and motivates Post-Op Bariatric Patients in regard to nutrition and food selection.
5. Coordinates medically supervised diets for Bariatric Patients including, requesting pre-determination from insurance companies, monitoring for compliance and completion of prescribed diet plans.
6. Participates in the maintenance of Outcomes Management Information on all Bariatric Cases.
7. Maintains exam rooms with necessary supplies. Ensures rooms are clean.
8. Educates patient/ family about nutrition and health maintenance.
9. Maintains patient records, in regard to nutritional education and assessments.
10. Contact, via telephone or registered mail, patients who miss appointments. Reschedule appointment if patient’s condition persists.
11. Coordinates appropriate release of medical information and maintains patient confidentiality according to Premier policy and government regulation.
12. Maintains strict confidentiality of PHI following Premier HIPAA policy and government regulation. Maintains strict confidentiality of employee information.
13. The jobholder must demonstrate current competencies and experience applicable to the job position and maintain appropriate licensure.
14. Any other duties assigned by the office manager
EDUCATION: Degree in Nutrition and maintain Registration as a Dietitian.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum one year professional experience in dietary practice, clinic experience preferred.
REQUIREMENTS: Certificate/License: State licensure as a dietician.
KNOWLEDGE:
1. Knowledge of current Parkwest Comprehensive Weight Loss Center program content.
2. Knowledge of current dietary practices and knowledge base.
SKILLS:
1. Skill in planning, organizing and adhering to timelines.
2. Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions.
3. Skill in applying universal precautions.
4. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports and responding to correspondence.
ABILITIES:
1. Ability to ensure quality in patient care.
2. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
3. Ability to communicate medical terminology and concepts clearly.
4. Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other staff.
5. Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with patients, physicians and staff.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment. Occasional evening or weekend work. Possible exposure to communicable diseases. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Frequent telephone contact with referring physician offices, hospital departments, insurance companies and patients.
