Porter-Starke Services is seeking an Admissions Specialist to conduct all initial mental health and addiction diagnostic evaluations for adolescents and adults seeking services at Porter Starke Services. Respond to all Northwest Health Porter Hospital, Portage Hospital and Valparaiso Medical Center Emergency Department for crisis evaluation requests, conducting crisis evaluations for adolescents and adults with mental health and substance abuse needs.
Porter-Starke Services, Inc. is a Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) based in Valparaiso and serves northwest Indiana with additional offices in Portage, Knox, and LaPorte. Porter-Starke also operates Marram Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with offices in Gary, Hebron, Portage, and Valparaiso.

- Prepares intake assessments for outpatient services and programs.
- Provides information and referrals to community services both in person and via the telephone.
- Completes electronic and paper medical record documentation as required.
- Provide emergency services at Northwest Health Porter Hospital emergency rooms, and other locations (i.e., Juvenile Detention Center, Porter County Jail) when deemed necessary by Director of Acute Intensive Services.
- Provides crisis intervention services on-site and off-site at emergency rooms and medical floors.
- Answer crisis calls.
- Consults with Porter-Starke Services doctors and therapists. Consults with Northwest Health Porter Hospital physicians, nurses and Porter County judges.
- Understands Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurance programs in regards to coverage limitations and restrictions.
- Assesses the client’s strengths and mental health needs accurately and objectively.
- Provides selected therapeutic communication to clients.
- Maintains and assures client confidentiality.
- Works nights, weekends and holidays according to on-call rotation to provide emergency services at Northwest Health Hospital emergency rooms, and other locations deemed necessary by the Director of Acute Intensive Services.
- Cross-train at all Admissions locations in the Porter Starke network in order to provide support as needed as the various office locations, as deemed necessary by the Director of Acute Intensive Services.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- One year experience in a mental health field required.
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification is required; Porter Starke can provide if needed
