What are the responsibilities and job description for the Regional Tax Practice Leader position at Pivotal Talent Search?
As Regional Tax Practice Leader, you will own the performance, growth, and client outcomes of a multi-office tax and accounting practice across the western region. You will set strategy, win and deepen client relationships, lead the integration of acquired firms, and build the team and operating model that allow the practice to scale.
Location: This is a remote role for the Western US; San Francisco Bay area or Dallas preferred.
Your scope of responsibilities will include:
- Own regional operations for Tax and Accounting Services, including revenue, margin, and cost efficiency, and be fully accountable for results.
- Develop and execute a regional growth strategy aligned with national expansion goals; drive organic growth by partnering with advisory and sales teams to convert prospects and expand services within the existing client base.
- Lead due diligence, onboarding, and operational integration of acquired tax and accounting firms in the region, aligning teams, processes, and culture to a unified model.
- Serve as a senior relationship owner for key regional clients, deepening trust and broadening adoption of the full suite of services.
- Provide strategic guidance on tax matters for clients — including entity structuring, risk management, and proactive tax planning — while overseeing accurate, timely tax compliance across the region.
- Manage tax, accounting, and bookkeeping operations, embedding continuous improvement and holding the team to clear, measurable quality standards.
- Partner with product and technology leaders to leverage technology-enabled solutions and build scalable, best-in-class operations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (such as wealth management, financial planning, transformation, and client services) to integrate tax considerations into a holistic client experience.
- Lead all aspects of service delivery, including engagement letters, pricing, referrals, capacity planning, and resolution of client escalations.
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing regional team of senior tax managers, accountants, and operations professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, excellence, and ongoing development.
- Attract, hire, and retain top-tier talent as the region scales, and partner with national leadership on workforce planning, organization design, and talent strategy to support both M&A integration and organic growth.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Advanced degree (Master of Taxation, JD, or equivalent), preferred.
- CPA license required
- 10 years of progressive experience in tax and accounting
- Demonstrated experience leading and driving growth for a regional practice
- Proven track record building senior-level client relationships, winning new engagements, and expanding client base
- Experience successfully leading the integration new acquisitions or major operational transitions
- Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire teams, set a high bar, and deliver results through others
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
- Uncompromising integrity and a strong commitment to compliance, fiduciary standards, and ethical conduct
