A rapidly growing U.S. manufacturer and developer of advanced energy infrastructure solutions is seeking a Tax Manager or Senior Tax Manager with deep expertise in Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) incentives to build internal tax credit capabilities, own energy credit positions, and reduce reliance on external advisors.
This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and enjoys working directly with source data, cost structures, and cross-functional teams. The successful candidate will help establish scalable processes and maintain ownership of tax positions related to federal energy incentives.
Key Responsibilities
Own Energy Credit Positions
- Lead internal methodology, documentation, calculations, and substantiation for 45X, 48E, domestic content, prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements, and other applicable IRA incentives.
- Maintain audit-ready files, internal controls, and repeatable compliance processes.
- Develop templates, workflows, and documentation standards to enable consistent treatment of new products, projects, and business activities.
- Ensure tax credit calculations and supporting analyses can withstand external review and regulatory scrutiny.
Technical Leadership & Cross-Functional Execution
- Partner closely with finance, accounting, supply chain, engineering, operations, legal, and project teams to collect, validate, and reconcile tax credit support.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and cost accounting teams to understand bills of materials, labor allocations, inventory valuation, and cost structures relevant to credit calculations.
- Translate complex tax requirements into practical operational guidance for non-tax stakeholders.
- Support implementation of processes that improve data integrity and documentation quality across the organization.
Manage External Advisors
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external tax advisors, consultants, and legal partners.
- Maintain ownership of tax positions and ensure work performed externally delivers value and remains aligned with internal objectives.
- Review and challenge assumptions, methodologies, and recommendations where appropriate.
- Manage advisor scope, timelines, and deliverables.
Support Strategic Transactions
- Assist with tax credit transfers, financing transactions, insurance diligence, investor reviews, and regulatory examinations.
- Prepare supporting materials and analyses for auditors, counterparties, and third-party stakeholders.
- Contribute to transaction-related tax diligence and strategic planning initiatives.
- Support responses to regulatory inquiries and audit processes as needed.
Qualifications
- 6-12 years of tax experience, ideally including a combination of public accounting and in-house corporate tax experience.
- Strong knowledge of IRA energy incentives, particularly 45X and 48E.
- Experience supporting manufacturing businesses, industrial companies, or energy-related organizations.
- Understanding of manufacturing cost structures, operational data flows, and cost accounting concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement internal processes, controls, and documentation frameworks.
- Experience managing external advisors while maintaining internal ownership of technical tax positions.
- Exposure to tax credit transfers, investor diligence, insurance reviews, or regulatory examinations is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills.
