What are the responsibilities and job description for the Journey‑Level CNC 5‑Axis Setup Specialist — Defense & Energy position at Pioneer Motor Bearing?
Imagine This
A turbine bearing needs a fast turnaround. You scan the route sheet, plan your workholding, mount a right‑angle head, touch off tools, and verify geometry on a 5‑axis VMC. The first‑article is close, but you see a chance to trim seconds with a smarter path. You edit the G‑code, note the change at the control, and confirm tolerances with micrometers and indicators. Later, you rig a heavy assembly under the crane and help a teammate debug a finish issue — all before lunch. If this sounds like your kind of day, you’ll thrive at Pioneer Motor Bearing Company and our PMB Machine Works division.
We’re a 4th‑generation family company supporting power generation, defense, and aerospace. We hire people who care about their craft, communicate clearly, and never stop learning.
Your Mission
- Set up CNC 5‑axis machines with correct tooling and offsets to manufacture/repair fluid film bearings, seals, and aerospace/defense parts.
- Turn blueprints, sketches, drawings, and verbal direction into precise parts — including jobs requiring right‑angle heads.
- Apply geometric and mathematical problem‑solving to plan setups and validate results.
- Keep your cell safe, tidy, and efficient while meeting quality and throughput goals.
- Measure precisely with dial calipers, micrometers, surface gauges, and indicators to maintain spec.
- Edit programs at the control to correct issues; document every change.
- Raise risks to quality, delivery, or customer needs early and offer solutions.
- Recommend program/tooling/setup improvements to reduce cycle time.
- Interpret complex technical drawings with confidence.
- Safely load/unload heavy parts using overhead cranes and proper rigging.

- Hands‑on with DMG MORI, Okuma, Hyundai, Fanuc (and related) equipment.
- Clear, direct communication; able to present and respond to manager/team questions.
- Applied math: proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume; algebra/geometry.
- Knowledge of manufacturing/repair for fluid film bearings.
- Understanding of cutting fluids, finishes, tolerances, turning, drilling, milling, and abrasive processes.
- Materials familiarity: steels, nonferrous metals, and alloys; aerospace exposure is a plus.
