Position Summary
The NC Programmer is responsible for providing programming support for machining parts, tools, or sheet metal on numerically controlled (NC) machine tools. This role ensures all parts meet dimensional specifications and equipment operates efficiently to meet production goals.
Essential Functions
- Develops and writes programs for machining parts, tools, or sheet metal using symbolic language to encode numerical control data that directs machine movement along cutting paths.
- Selects appropriate cutting tools by evaluating speeds, feeds, cutter types, and machine limitations to ensure safe and cost-effective production.
- Determines the most efficient programming routines for calculating dimensions, radii, curvatures, and sequences of machining operations.
- Analyzes blueprints, sketches, and design data to determine configurations, dimensions, and machining parameters such as tool selection, speed, and feed rates.
- Prepares geometric layouts using CAD/CAM software or drafting tools to define reference points and cutting paths.
- Modifies and updates existing programs to reflect engineering changes, process improvements, or error corrections.
- Conducts trial runs to validate program accuracy and compares results with original program specifications to ensure precision.
- Participates in continuous improvement initiatives, recommending methods, tools, and material changes to optimize productivity and reduce costs.
- Maintains technical proficiency through ongoing education, workshops, and technical literature review.
- Supports cross-functional and project teams as needed to achieve overall production goals.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Completion of a related trade school program, associate degree, or equivalent technical training in NC Programming.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as an NC Programmer or in a related technical/manufacturing role.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming principles, machining processes, and precision measurement tools.
- Experience with Espirit CAM software preferred.
Job Type: Temp-to-hire
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
