Our client a top-tier alternative investment firm in New York City is seeking a highly detail-oriented and analytically driven Associate Vice President, Investment Operations – Data to join its Investment Operations team. This role sits in a hybrid structure (4 days in-office, 1 day remote) and supports the firm’s continued focus on strengthening static data, master data, reference data, and broader data management controls across the investment platform.
This is an individual contributor role focused on ensuring the integrity, consistency, and governance of core investment data used across trading, operations, accounting, reporting, and downstream business functions. The ideal candidate will bring strong operational rigor, deep familiarity with financial data structures, and the ability to partner across teams to maintain a controlled and scalable data environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and support the integrity of static data, master data, and reference data across multiple investment systems and data sources
- Validate, reconcile, and monitor key data domains including securities reference data, pricing inputs, analytics, and instrument-level attributes
- Support end-to-end data management processes, ensuring consistency and accuracy across front, middle, and back-office platforms
- Maintain and enhance data governance frameworks, including data ownership, control standards, validation rules, and change management procedures
- Investigate and resolve daily data breaks related to reference and master data, ensuring timely escalation and remediation
- Partner with internal stakeholders and IT teams on data attribute changes, system enhancements, and process improvements impacting core data sets
- Support internal, client, and regulatory reporting by ensuring high-quality underlying reference and static data inputs
- Develop and maintain operational dashboards and KPIs to monitor data quality, completeness, and operational efficiency
- Collaborate closely with portfolio management, accounting, compliance, credit, and external counterparties on data-related inquiries and validations
- Support ad hoc data requests, including retrieval of supporting documentation (e.g., ratings letters, bond documentation, and reference materials)
- Maintain strong audit trails and documentation standards for all data controls, reconciliations, and updates
- Identify opportunities to improve data workflows and strengthen controls across static, master, and reference data domains
Qualifications:
- 5–8 years of experience in investment operations, data management, or financial services with strong exposure to static data, master data, reference data, and data governance
- Strong understanding of financial instruments, including alternative credit, fixed income, and mortgage-related products, and related lifecycle events
- Strong Excel skills required; exposure to financial data platforms such as Bloomberg, Clearwater, IVP, or similar systems preferred
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail
- Strong understanding of data structures, data quality concepts, and operational controls
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills across investment, operations, and technology stakeholders
