Utility Project Superintendent

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Utility Project Superintendent for an active construction project in Temple, Texas.

This is a hands-on field leadership position responsible for both field execution and project documentation. The Superintendent will lead utility crews, coordinate daily activities, maintain a safe and productive jobsite, and ensure project records stay current from installation through inspection and closeout.

We are especially interested in candidates with experience supervising water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, underground utilities, or related civil/site utility construction.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise field crews performing underground utility construction.
• Develop and communicate daily work plans, manpower needs, equipment requirements, and production goals.
• Coordinate utility installation activities with project management, subcontractors, inspectors, and other trades.
• Read and interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications, and utility details.
• Ensure work is installed according to project specifications, plans, schedules, and quality requirements.
• Enforce OSHA requirements, Texas one-call/811 procedures, project safety policies, and site-specific safety rules.
• Conduct and document daily JHAs/JSA meetings, toolbox talks, and tailgate safety meetings.
• Exercise stop-work authority whenever unsafe conditions or practices are identified.
• Ensure incidents, injuries, utility strikes, and other safety events are documented and reported immediately.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, as-built information, quantity/production tickets, testing documentation, and photo logs.
• Coordinate required inspections, testing, excavation, trenching, backfill, compaction, and restoration activities.
• Track field progress and identify potential schedule, material, equipment, or manpower issues before they impact production.
• Maintain an organized jobsite and ensure documentation keeps pace with work completed in the field.

Qualifications

• Previous experience supervising underground utility construction strongly preferred.
• Experience with water, sewer, storm drainage, or similar civil utility systems.
• Texas construction/jobsite experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and utility drawings.
• Strong knowledge of excavation, trenching, underground utility installation, and jobsite safety practices.
• Demonstrated ability to lead crews and manage daily field production.
• Strong documentation and organizational skills.
• Working knowledge of OSHA construction standards and underground utility safety requirements.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with crews, project management, subcontractors, inspectors, and clients.

Preferred Certifications

Current certifications are preferred where applicable, including:

• CPR/First Aid
• Competent Person – Excavation & Trenching
• Confined Space
• Fall Protection
• Rigging/Signal Person
• Heavy Equipment or related operator certifications
• Other applicable utility/construction safety certifications
