Senior Project Manager — Heavy Commercial & Correctional Facilities
Location: Montgomery, Alabama (on-site)
Compensation: $140,000 – $160,000 base, plus performance bonuses, car allowance, and full benefits

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead large-scale, ground-up heavy commercial construction projects in the Montgomery, Alabama area, with a specific focus on correctional facilities (jails and/or federal prisons). The ideal candidate brings a proven track record managing complex commercial builds from preconstruction through closeout and has direct, hands-on experience delivering correctional/detention scope. This is a senior leadership role responsible for the full lifecycle of the project — budget, schedule, quality, safety, and client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage ground-up heavy commercial construction projects from preconstruction through final closeout and owner turnover.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the owner, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and inspecting authorities.
- Oversee correctional facility scope, including security electronics, detention hardware, secure perimeters, and the specialized coordination these projects require.
- Develop, manage, and maintain project budgets ranging into the tens of millions; track costs, forecast, and protect margin.
- Build and own the project schedule; drive milestones and proactively resolve issues that threaten timeline or budget.
- Manage buyout, subcontracts, change orders, RFIs, submittals, and pay applications within Procore.
- Lead project teams including assistant PMs, superintendents, and field staff; mentor and develop junior personnel.
- Enforce rigorous safety standards and ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and local codes and regulations.
- Coordinate quality control and ensure work conforms to drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Provide regular project reporting to ownership and executive leadership.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience as a Senior Project Manager on heavy commercial, ground-up construction projects.
- Minimum 1–2 years of direct jail/detention or correctional facility scope experience as a Senior Project Manager.
- Demonstrated success delivering large-scale commercial projects on time and on budget.
- Strong command of construction means and methods, scheduling, cost control, and contract management.
- Proficiency with Procore project management software.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and client-facing skills.
- Ability to work on-site in Montgomery, Alabama.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience specifically with federal prison (BOP) or state/county detention projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Familiarity with security electronics, detention equipment contractors (DEC), and secure-facility commissioning.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- PMP, CCM, or DBIA credentials.
- Experience with design-build and/or CM-at-risk delivery methods.
- Working knowledge of scheduling tools such as Primavera P6 or MS Project.
