Customs Brokerage Agent | Bensenville, Illinois | Salary: Up to $60,000
This role is responsible for preparing and submitting accurate customs entries, ensuring compliance with U.S. Customs regulations, and facilitating the smooth clearance of international shipments. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and transmit customs entries for import shipments in a timely and accurate manner
- Classify goods using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS)
- Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations and other government agencies
- Review shipping documents including commercial invoices, packing lists, and bills of lading
- Communicate with clients, carriers, and government agencies to resolve clearance issues
- Monitor shipments and provide status updates to customers
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with company and regulatory requirements
- Calculate duties, taxes, and fees associated with imports
- Assist with post-entry processes, audits, and corrections as needed
Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience in customs brokerage or freight forwarding (Entry Writer experience preferred)
- Knowledge of U.S. import regulations and customs procedures
- Familiarity with HTS classification and duty calculation
- Experience using customs brokerage software (e.g., ABI systems)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
