What You Bring
Education & Certification
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a Medical Coding Program
- Active coding certification: CCA, CIC, or CCS
Professional Experience
- Minimum 2 years of outpatient and inpatient facility coding
Technical & Coding Knowledge
- Proficient in ICD-10-CM/PCS guidelines and conventions
- Knowledge of Official Coding Guidelines, MS-DRG, APR-DRG, IPPS regulatory requirements
- Strong background in medical terminology, anatomy, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and ancillary test results
- Skilled in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Familiar with payer systems and EHRs
Analytical & Communication Skills
- Strong organizational and critical thinking abilities
- Ability to interpret and evaluate provider documentation
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Team-oriented with ability to give coding/documentation feedback to clinicians
Work Style & Flexibility
- Self-motivated; able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Able to meet physical requirements of the role (with or without accommodation)
Your Role
- Assign principal and secondary diagnosis/procedure codes using ICD-10 guidelines
- Validate documentation; initiate physician queries when necessary
- Analyze records for complications, comorbidities, and severity indicators
- Confirm and correct ADT data
- Participate in quality audits and workflow improvement initiatives
- Support process enhancements to strengthen overall coding operations
