A growing organization based in Birmingham, Alabama is seeking a Senior Accountant who enjoys working with complex financial data and modern accounting systems. The company operates several business lines across the country and this role offers the opportunity to work within a large private company that values strong financial insight and process improvement.

Tasks and Responsibilities

This role plays an important part in the monthly accounting cycle and the accuracy of financial information across several business units. The Senior Accountant supports reliable reporting and strong financial controls within a complex organization. Work involves reviewing financial data, maintaining reconciliations, and improving internal processes. Collaboration with finance leadership and operational teams ensures financial insights reach decision makers. The position also supports automation and efficiency improvements within the accounting environment.

• Perform month-end close activities for several company entities, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare and review reconciliations for major balance sheet accounts to ensure accurate financial records.
• Perform bank account reconciliations and support automation of reconciliation processes within the accounting system.
• Review operational and financial data to identify trends and provide insights to leadership teams.
• Collaborate with the Controller and accounting team to maintain strong financial controls and reporting accuracy.

Required Skills and Knowledge

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or similar field required.
• CPA or progress towards CPA preferred.
• Strong knowledge of month-end close processes, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Experience working with enterprise accounting systems such as Workday or similar platforms.
• Ability to review large data sets and identify financial trends and inconsistencies.
• Knowledge of bank reconciliation processes and accounting automation tools.
• Background in public accounting or large corporate finance environments is valued.
