Job Overview
The Middle School Learning Support Teacher provides specialized instruction to students in grades 68 within a learning support setting. The successful candidate will deliver instruction aligned to Pennsylvania Academic Standards and each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), ensuring access to the general education curriculum while addressing individual learning needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specially designed instruction (SDI) in English Language Arts and/or Mathematics in small group and inclusive co-teaching settings.
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Facilitate and actively participate in IEP meetings, including collaboration with families, related service providers, and general education teachers.
- Conduct and contribute to the Re-Evaluation process, including data collection, progress monitoring, and documentation.
- Differentiate instruction and utilize evidence-based instructional practices to support diverse learners.
- Implement positive behavioral supports and classroom management strategies that promote student engagement and growth.
- Collaborate with grade-level teams to ensure continuity of instruction and inclusive practices.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress and compliance requirements.
- Utilize instructional technology and online learning platforms (e.g., Schoology) to enhance student learning.
- Participate in school-wide initiatives, including the 7th Grade Outdoor Education Program in May.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.
- Instructional I/II Special Education PK-8 (9226), PA Instructional I/II Special Education PK-12 (9225) Certificate, PA Instructional I/II Special Education N-12 Certificate, Instructional I/II Mental and/or Physically Handicapped K-12 (9235), Instructional I/II Mentally Retarded K-12, Instructional I/II Socially and Emotionally Disturbed K-12, or Instructional I/II Emotional Disturbed K-12 certificate preferred.
- Any PA Instructional I/II certification is required.
- Strong knowledge of IEP development, specially designed instruction, progress monitoring, and the MDE process.
- Experience working with middle school students preferred.
- Experience in co-teaching and inclusive instructional practices preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing student enrollments and instructional needs.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and high-expectations learning environment.
