We are hiring Substitute Teachers and Substitute Classroom Monitors for the 2025-26 school year (and beyond!) This is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our students. The work schedule is flexible as you pick the days you want to work! All PSERS retirees, active or inactive PA teaching certificate holder may substitute an unlimited amount of days per year.

Job Overview
Our Substitute Teachers and Substitute Teacher Monitors will ensure education continues for students while the regular classroom teacher is not available.
Pay - You are hired and paid through Palmyra Area School District (we do not use a substitute service):
- $140/day for Day-to-Day Substitute Teachers and Substitute Teacher Monitors
- $215/day for Short-Term Substitutes (more than 20 days but less than 90 days in same classroom/teacher assignment)*
- $288/day for Long-Term Substitutes (90 days or more in same classroom/teacher assignment)*
- May require a separate application for the specific position and does require a minimum of a Bachelors degree.
- PA teaching certificate (all/any certifications); or
- An emergency permit obtained through Palmyra Area School District or IU13; or
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in any content area and complete the Guest Teacher Program through Lancaster-Lebanon IU13.
- The guest teacher program information is available through Palmyra Area School District and can be completed within 6 hours from the comfort of your own home!
- Prospective Teacher Substitutes => College students enrolled in a Pennsylvania-approved college or university teacher preparation program AND have completed a minimum of sixty (60) college credits or equivalent may work as a Substitute Teacher
- Has completed at least 60 semester hours or the equivalent of courses at a regionally accredited college/univeristy located in PA; or have at least three (3) years experience as a paraprofessional in a school entity and is currently employed as a paraprofessional in a school entity; and
- Has met the pre-employment requirements for background clearances, citizenship, and good moral character under the School Code and Child Protective Services Law; and
- Is at least 25 years of age; and
- Has completed training on classroom management available through the Palmyra Area School District (via IU13.)
