Job Description
The General Counsel will provide varied legal counsel to the senior leadership team and business:
- Oversee all legal and regulatory compliance matters across the organization.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
- Provide strategic legal advice to senior leadership and other stakeholders.
- Manage and resolve disputes, including litigation and arbitration proceedings.
- Ensure compliance with industry-specific regulations and standards.
- Collaborate with external legal counsel and manage relationships as needed.
- Develop and implement policies to minimize legal risks and ensure operational integrity.
- Provide training and updates on legal and compliance matters to internal teams.
The Successful Applicant
The successful General Counsel should have:
- A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership.
- Extensive knowledge of legal principles, procedures, and regulations within a global organization. Preference for shipping/ maritime, industrial or manufacturing industry (not essential).
- Exceptional negotiation and contract management skills.
- Proven ability to build and manage legal functions.
- Confident approach to advising the business on complex legal issues and providing strategic guidance.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams.
- Experience managing relationships with external legal counsel.
The General Counsel (US) will benefit from:
