The Children’s Farm Worker oversees the general care and maintains the areas for the farm animals at Plamann Park for the Outagamie County Parks System.

The Children’s Farm Worker is responsible for the daily care of the farm animals, interacting with park visitors and maintains the areas for the farm animals.

This position requires self-motivation, excellent animal care skills, and able to maintain the upkeep of the grounds.

The Hours For This Position Are

Monday-Friday 8:15 am - 4:45 pm. Possibilities of overtime

Every Other Weekend Is Required

The following duties are most critical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Prepare and distribute food and water for approximately 15 newborn and juvenile farm animals, including cows, pigs, goats, sheep, rabbits, and other livestock, ensuring proper nutrition and hydration.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary environment by removing animal waste regularly and disposing of it according to park regulations.
  • Clean and disinfect animal pens, stalls, and the barn to ensure proper hygiene and reduce the risk of disease transmission.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the barn and surrounding farm area by sweeping, raking, and removing debris.
  • Keep walkways, picnic areas, and visitor pathways clear and accessible, ensuring a safe environment for guests.
  • Mow grass, trim trees and shrubs, weed flower beds, and perform other horticultural tasks to maintain the overall aesthetics of the farm and surrounding park areas.
  • Repair, maintain, and paint benches, picnic tables, fences, and farm structures as needed to ensure an attractive and well-kept environment.
  • Perform light facility repairs, such as fixing gates, replacing signage, or maintaining water troughs and feeding stations.
  • Welcome and engage with families, school groups, and general visitors, answering questions about the animals, their care, and farm life.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years old or older.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain
  • Must have the ability to lift items, carry, and move items up to 50 lbs. or more several times per shift.
  • Experience with farm animal care and maintenance preferred.
  • Experience with farm animals (goats, sheep, chickens, rabbits, etc.), including feeding, cleaning enclosures, monitoring health, and assisting with notifying the Outagamie County Parks leadership team of medical needs of the animals.
  • Understanding how to safely interact with animals and enforce visitor rules to ensure a safe experience for both animals and guests.
  • Ability to perform manual labor, including but not limited to lifting feed bags, lifting/moving bales of hay, cleaning stalls, and being on your feet for extended periods.
  • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, proactively identifying tasks and responsibilities to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Working Environment:
    • Outdoor & Indoor Work – You may work in barns, paddocks, and often exposed to varying weather conditions.
    • Physically Active – Expect frequent walking, bending, lifting, and interacting with animals and visitors throughout the day.
    • Busy & Noisy – Children's farms can be crowded and full of energy, especially during school field trips or weekends.
    • Hands-On & Messy – Direct animal care involves cleaning, feeding, and handling animals, which can be dirty or smelly at times.
