Under direct supervision of the Life Enrichment Manager, the Life Enrichment Specialist works cooperatively with villagers, families and coworkers to create a household environment that promotes villager directed living. The Life Enrichment Specialist coordinates life enrichment opportunities based on villagers' choice to enhance their sense of well being and to promote physical, cognitive and emotional health. These include but are not limited to: self esteem, pleasure, comfort, education, creativity, success and independence. The Life Enrichment Specialist maintains the cleanliness of the household, which includes public areas and villager's rooms.
Opportunities available to work an average of 20 or 28 hours per week from 8:00am-4:30pm and will include working a schedule that includes 2 weekends out of every 6 as well as alternating holidays. - Ability to see person-directed care as an important component in providing villagers with a sense of health and well being. Collaborates with household members to create and maintain an atmosphere that implements villager choice.
- Creates, schedules and promotes optimal involvement of participants in life enrichment events based on villager choice. Adapts life enrichment opportunities based on the life interests of each villager.
- Interviews villagers and families to create a comprehensive social history that is reviewed and shared with the team on an ongoing basis.
- Maintains a safe, comfortable and functional environment by assessing the household for potential hazards, implements practices utilizing appropriate techniques regarding sanitation, infection control, fire safety, disaster preparedness and emergency care, investigates and reports all incidents and accidents, and observes the team for safe work habits.
- Reviews and documents on each villager's involvement in life enrichment and addresses their overall care plan needs as identified by the villager.
- Assists with community outings by transporting villagers in the facility vehicle and assists with large in-facility life enrichment events
- Maintains condition of villagers room and household common areas by cleaning and disinfecting furniture, emptying wastebaskets, vacuuming floors, dusting, completing deep cleans, mopping floors, carpet cleaning and sanitizing the bathroom.
- Keep the household clean and free from odors, accumulations of dirt, dust, rubbish, and safety hazards per State and Federal requirements.
- Attends and participates in household meetings, huddles, educational in-services, and other meetings as it applies to the position.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Due to Wisconsin Driving Law Requirements applicants for this position must be at least 18 years of age.
- Experience in long-term care preferred
- Job-related experience, such as custodial experience and/or life enrichment(recreation) experience that required planning preferred;
- Must maintain current certification in adult CPR
- Or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record.
- This position does require successful completion of a Post Offer Pre Employment Examination (POPE).
- The Annual Influenza Vaccination is required unless a Medical or Religious Exemption is approved by Human Resources.
- Ability to effectively communicate using English and understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to comply with safety regulations, follow the Safety Data Sheets and practice safety procedures
- Organizational skills, creativity and knowledge to conduct life enrichment events and to evaluate both individual and group outcomes.
- Knowledge and competency of computers and ability to complete assignments according to designated time frames.
- Ability to work semi-independently making sound decisions, budget time and work to efficiently complete tasks
- Demonstrated reliability in attendance and flexibility in work hours.
- Ability to drive a vehicle and safely transport villagers following all DOT regulations
- Ability to establish positive professional rapport with villagers, families, co-workers and the general public.
