Journeyman HVAC Technician
Job Summary: The Journeyman HVAC Technician installs, maintains, diagnoses, and repairs heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in residential and/or commercial settings. This role works independently under general supervision and may direct the work of apprentices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, inspect, and repair HVAC systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, ductwork, thermostats, and ventilation components
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system malfunctions using appropriate testing equipment
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
- Ensure all work complies with local, state, and national codes (e.g., building codes, EPA refrigerant handling regulations)
- Handle refrigerants safely in accordance with EPA Section 608 certification requirements
- Communicate with customers regarding system issues, repair options, and maintenance recommendations
- Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and parts/materials used
- Mentor and supervise apprentice technicians as needed
- Follow all safety protocols and use required personal protective equipment
Qualifications:
- Journeyman HVAC license/certification as required by state or local jurisdiction
- EPA Section 608 Certification (Universal preferred)
- Minimum of 4-5 years of hands-on HVAC experience (or completion of a registered apprenticeship program)
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Strong knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration systems
- Ability to read technical schematics and diagnostic reports
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50-75 lbs
- Comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying weather conditions
- Ability to stand, kneel, and climb ladders for extended periods
Work Environment: Field-based role requiring travel to job sites; may include on-call/emergency service hours.
Salary : $45 - $60
