The Benefits Analyst provides essential technical and analytical support for the delivery and accounting of company-sponsored retirement plans, including 401(k) and Roth 401(k) programs. This role ensures total compliance with plan documents, Union agreements, Service Contracts, and federal regulations (ACA, IRS, ERISA, and DOL). This is a remote position operating on Alaska Standard Time, with a heavy focus on benefits accounting, auditing, and eligibility monitoring.

Job Description: Benefits Analyst (Remote) Position Overview
The Benefits Analyst provides essential technical and analytical support for the delivery and accounting of company-sponsored retirement plans, including 401(k) and Roth 401(k) programs. This role ensures total compliance with plan documents, Union agreements, Service Contracts, and federal regulations (ACA, IRS, ERISA, and DOL). This is a remote position operating on Alaska Standard Time, with a heavy focus on benefits accounting, auditing, and eligibility monitoring.
Key Responsibilities
- Auditing & Reconciliation: Perform comprehensive audits of plan enrollments, terminations, and payroll contributions against recordkeeper reports. Reconcile FSA/HSA deductions and oversee vendor transmissions.
- Financial Oversight: Manage benefit-related accounting functions, including funding, premiums/deductions, and deferral changes. Prepare and audit check requests for vendor payments, insurance claims, and Union dues/pensions.
- Compliance & Reporting: Assist with annual 401(k) audits, census reporting, and compliance testing. Manage employer "True-Ups" and implement corrective actions for any failed testing or operational errors.
- Systems Management: Develop and maintain specialized workflows for benefits HRIS. Serve as the primary point of contact for Finance regarding pension audits and general ledger benefit reconciliations.
- Program Support: Assist with employee orientations, open enrollment periods, and the maintenance of benefit records in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Stakeholder Relations: Attend Trustee meetings, record accurate minutes, and provide ongoing customer service to employees, vendors, and Union/SCA representatives.
- Technical Expertise: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically advanced Excel capabilities for high-volume data analysis.
- Accounting Knowledge: Solid understanding of basic accounting and General Ledger (GL) principles, specifically regarding benefit deduction set-ups.
- Regulatory Fluency: General knowledge of state and federal compliance (ERISA, DOL, ACA) and best practices for large-employer insurance plans.
- Analytical Thinking: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues early, develop alternative solutions, and justify decisions with data.
- Communication: Effective technical writing and oral communication skills, including the ability to present complex information to groups.
- Education: Associate degree in Accounting or Business-related discipline required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience: * Minimum of 5 years administering retirement/pension plans for organizations with 2,500 employees.
- Minimum of 5 years working with Union collective bargaining agreements and the Service Contract Act (SCA) is strongly preferred.
- Software: Experience with Deltek Costpoint, Workday, or similar HRIS systems is preferred.
- Certification: CEBS or PHR certification is a plus.
- Screening: Ability to pass drug, credit, and background screenings.
- Location: Remote (Must work Alaska Standard Time hours)
- Status: Regular, Full-Time
- Preference Statement: Preference is given to Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) shareholders, descendants, and spouses.
