MIG Welder – Heavy Wall Pipe
Position Summary
The MIG Welder – Heavy Wall Pipe is responsible for welding thick-gauge steel pipe and components according to specifications and production schedules. This position works in a heavy industrial shop environment that is not climate controlled. The welder must follow all safety procedures and produce structurally sound welds on large diameter and heavy wall pipe.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform MIG welding on heavy wall steel pipe and related components
- Weld thick material in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions as required
- Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and weld symbols
- Set up and adjust MIG welding equipment for proper voltage, wire feed, and gas flow
- Fit, align, and clamp pipe sections prior to welding
- Inspect welds visually for quality, penetration, and defects
- Grind, clean, and prepare weld surfaces as needed
- Operate overhead crane, forklift, or other material handling equipment as assigned
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Meet daily production goals and quality standards
- Follow all company safety policies and wear required PPE at all times
Physical Requirements
- Lift, push, and pull up to 75 pounds
- Stand for extended periods (8–10 hours)
- Frequently bend, kneel, climb, and reach
- Work around heavy equipment and moving machinery
- Tolerate exposure to heat, cold, dust, fumes, sparks, and loud noise
- Shop environment is not climate controlled
Qualifications
- Experience MIG welding thick steel (heavy wall pipe preferred)
- Ability to pass in-house weld test
- Ability to read a tape measure accurately
- Basic math skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Dependable attendance is required
