Job Summary
The Pipe Beveler is responsible for preparing pipe ends by beveling, facing, and squaring pipe to specified dimensions and angles for welding and fabrication. This role supports production by ensuring pipe ends meet quality and fit-up requirements. Work is performed in a manufacturing environment that is not climate controlled.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate pipe beveling machines (manual or automated) to bevel pipe ends per job specifications
- Set up, adjust, and align pipe and beveling equipment
- Measure bevel angles, land, and pipe dimensions using hand measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, bevel gauges)
- Inspect finished bevels for accuracy, quality, and consistency
- Remove burrs, slag, or sharp edges after beveling
- Handle, move, and position pipe using cranes, forklifts, or other material handling equipment as required
- Follow production schedules and work orders
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Perform basic machine maintenance and report equipment issues
- Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and PPE requirements
- Work closely with welders, fitters, and supervisors to meet production needs
- Manufacturing shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, heat, and heavy equipment
- Not climate controlled
- Fast-paced, production-driven setting
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience operating pipe beveling equipment or similar metalworking machinery
- Ability to read and understand work orders, measurements, and bevel requirements
- Basic math and measurement skills
- Ability to use hand tools and measuring instruments
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Commitment to workplace safety and attendance
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in pipe manufacturing or structural steel fabrication
- Familiarity with large-diameter or heavy-wall pipe
- Experience working around overhead cranes and forklifts
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods
- Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs, with assistance for heavier items
- Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled industrial environment
- Ability to wear required PPE, including steel-toe boots, gloves, hearing protection, and eye protection
