Director of Engineering
Job Summary: The Director of Engineering provides strategic vision and technical leadership across all engineering functions, ensuring alignment with company goals and customer expectations. This role is responsible for building, mentoring, and managing a high-performing multidisciplinary engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The Director is actively involved in both pre-sale and post-sale phases, supporting the design and delivery of cutting-edge material handling solutions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
· Define and track engineering Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that align with business objectives, covering system design, product development, controls, and manufacturing engineering.
· Develop and implement engineering policies, procedures, and standards that support a seamless and efficient product development lifecycle.
· Lead and approve product development and R&D initiatives, ensuring technical excellence, innovation, and manufacturability.
· Evaluate and optimize engineering systems, tools, and practices to ensure consistent and scalable, quality driven operations.
· Manage engineering schedules and allocate resources effectively to meet project milestones and customer deadlines. Leverage external resources as needed to support project execution.
· Ensure engineering projects are completed within scope, budget, and timelines while maintaining high-quality standards.
· Champion intellectual property (IP) development, including idea evaluation, budgeting, and collaboration with legal counsel.
· Stay current on emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in the material handling industry, integrating relevant advancements into product development.
· Implement and champion continuous process improvement (CPI) methodologies, such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen, across engineering workflows to improve quality, reduce waste, and increase efficiency.
· Foster a culture of learning and innovation by encouraging teams to identify opportunities for process enhancements and proactively solve problems.
· Lead talent acquisition, development, and retention strategies to build a best-in-class engineering team.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
· Manages Product Design, Product Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering department leaders and individual contributors.
· Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
· Handles employee conduct as needed and in accordance with company employee handbook and in coordination with Human Resources.
Qualifications & Requirements:
· Demonstrated leadership experience with a servant leadership mindset, inspiring teams both within and beyond direct reporting lines.
· Proficient in sales reporting and CRM tools; capable of leveraging data analytics and business intelligence tools to support decision-making.
· Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives.
· Innovative and solutions-oriented, with a strong customer focus.
· Experience managing complex engineering projects from concept through delivery.
· Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor).
· Proficient in 2D AutoCAD.
· Skilled in Microsoft Excel and general Microsoft Office applications.
· Ability to interpret mechanical/electrical schematics and customer specifications.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Advanced math skills, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, as needed for engineering analysis.
Education & Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering required. Master’s degree preferred.
· Minimum of 10 years of engineering management experience, including at least 3 years in a senior leadership role. Relevant industry experience preferred.

Pay: $140,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
