Typical Duties
- Under the supervision of the House Manger, OAL caregivers are responsible for providing the assistance in personal care, household support, implementation of individual program plans, and transportation to recognized activities/outings.
- Assist residents in personal hygiene care. Tasks and supports the caregiver provides include but not limited to toileting, bathing, dressing, shaving, dental care, grooming, transferring, ambulation/mobility, taking medication, laundry, housekeeping, meal preparation, household maintenance/care, shopping, money management, attendance at med appointments, transportation, social summer's plans of service. Completing required written documentation in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Encouraging and assisting consumers in being involved in community activities and outing.
- Transporting consumers to activities, day programs, medical appointments, etc. as required. As a caregiver, you may be required to use your own vehicle to take clients to outings.
- Administering medications, treatments, and therapy programs as trained. Administer medications in accordance with physician instructions. Documents administration and abides by CMH medication policies.
- Communicate with supervisor and clinicians in regard to needs of consumers or information relayed through you.
- Implement all recommendations of OAL or other authorized individuals.
- Complete any required training appropriate to your placement.
- Be available to meet scheduled obligations and to provide appropriate “bridging” care when needed.
- Attend staff meeting and training sessions as required by the organization
- All employees hired must be at least 18 years of age
- A valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or able to produce an appropriate work visa;
- Must be suitable to meet the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual needs of each consumer.
- Must be able to provide at least 3 (one personal, two work) references
- Must submit to a criminal record review and prove to be “good moral character”
- Must be capable of handling emergencies.
- Must be capable of assuring implementation of treatment plans and other service designed to maximize the independence of growth of the consumers.
- Nutrition

- Introduction to group home care (includes personal care, supervision, and protection).
- Environmental and fire emergencies.
- Recipient Rights.
- Prevention and containment of communicable diseases.
- Reporting requirements.
- Medication administration and nursing procedures.
- Non-physical behavioral interventions.
- Nutrition and food handling skills.
