Title: Director of Tax and Audit

Location: Brookfield, WI

Job Summary:

The Director / Vice President of Tax and Audit is a senior role responsible for overseeing the company’s tax function, internal audit and controls, investment oversight (corporate and family), and some financial due diligence activities related to mergers, acquisitions, and strategic opportunities. This role ensures compliance, strengthens financial governance, supports capital allocation decisions, and provides critical insight to the executive team on growth and risk management.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

Tax Strategy & Compliance

  • Lead the company’s tax strategy, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Oversee tax planning, structuring, credits, incentives, and long-term optimization strategies.
  • Direct preparation and review of tax filings and coordinate with external advisors and regulatory bodies. This includes filing taxes and partnering with outside vendors to get taxes filed.
  • Evaluate and communicate tax implications for business decisions, investments, and transaction structures.

Audit, Controls & Risk Management

  • Lead the internal audit function, including annual audit planning, risk assessments, and execution of audits.
  • Ensure compliance with financial reporting standards and maintain a strong internal control environment.
  • Partner with external auditors and oversee timely completion of annual audits.
  • Identify process and control enhancements across the organization and work with business units to implement improvements. This includes establishing a delegation of authority table for the company.

Investments & Capital Oversight

  • Support the evaluation and monitoring of corporate and family investments, including financial analysis, risk assessment, grant distributions/investments, and performance tracking.
  • Assist in capital allocation decisions by providing structured analysis and scenario modeling.
  • Oversee governance, reporting, and compliance for corporate and family investment activities.
  • Lead financial, operational, and tax due diligence for potential acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic partnerships.
  • Support development of deal structures, valuation models, and negotiation strategies.

Leadership & Executive Collaboration

  • Serve as a key advisor to the CFO, CEO, Owners, and executive leadership on tax matters, audit findings, investment decisions, and transaction opportunities.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop teams across tax, audit, and investments.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external auditors, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
  • Communicate complex financial and tax topics in a clear, concise, executive-level manner.

Education & Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA, or Master’s in Tax preferred.
  • 10 years of progressive leadership experience in tax, audit, or financial management roles.
  • Experience reviewing and managing corporate investments and capital analysis.
  • Proven track record leading due diligence, M&A analysis, and integration efforts.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, audit methodologies, and regulatory compliance.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and strategic decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to manage cross-functional initiatives.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $155,000.00 - $258,000.00 per year
