Job Summary:
The Orientation Leader Coordinator (OLC) Team Leader positions are the core of the Welcome Weekend experience. The OLCs plan the orientation experience, hire and oversee the Orientation Leaders and execute all of the Welcome Weekend plans.
Principal Responsibilities
- Attend OLC meetings twice per month in the spring semester
- Organize and prepare for the selection of Orientation Leaders (OLs) in the spring
- Supervise/oversee the OLs from spring training throughout Welcome Weekend
- Organize, attend and participate in the spring OL Training(s)
- Maintain communication with the Office of Student Involvement Staff
- Organize and prepare for the August OL Training
- Complete the Summer Common Experience and prepare to assist with the Summer Common Experience Discussion
- Return to Ohio Northern University by Tuesday, August 11
- Attend OLC Work Days on August 12-14
- Organize, attend and participate in August OL Training, scheduled for August 16-18
- Assist with move-in for first-year students on August 19
- Be a mentor and point of contact for a group of first-year students throughout Welcome Weekend
- Organize and follow a placement schedule to staff various events throughout the weekend
- Facilitate icebreakers and team building activities to allow first-year students an opportunity to get to know each other
- Lead small-group discussions with first-year students on topics including academics, campus involvement, ONU traditions, and technology use
- Engage group in frequent, informal, unscripted conversations aimed to ease students’ transition to campus
- Motivate first-year students and maintain excitement throughout the entire Welcome Weekend
- Make positive choices throughout the entire Welcome Weekend including refraining from any location where alcohol will be present
- Attend and help staff late night events on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings
- Serve as a point of contact for OLs
- Other duties as assigned
- Assist with the planning for the 2026 OL Reunion and attend the event
- Provide feedback to the Director of Student Involvement regarding Welcome Weekend 2026 as a whole which may include evaluations and program review
- If you will graduate by spring 2027 or will begin rotations at the end of spring 2027, you may participate in the selection of the 2027 Orientation Leader Coordinators by serving on the selection committee.

- Have energy and enthusiasm and possess a willingness to learn
- Ability to follow and comprehend a schedule and disseminate the information to others
- Possess a willingness to experience new situations and openness to stepping outside of your comfort zone to help new students also step out of their comfort zone
Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicants must be full-time undergraduate students through fall semester 2026
- Applicants must demonstrate academic proficiency with a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA at the conclusion of spring 2025 and maintained through spring 2026
- Applicants must be in good conduct standing with the University
- Applicants must follow and support University policies
- Applicants must have been an Orientation Leader previously
