Job Summary:
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) play a vital role in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to lead fulfilling, independent, and meaningful lives. DSPs provide hands-on assistance with daily living activities, promote community integration, and support individuals in achieving their personal goals.
The DSP works closely with individuals in their homes, community settings, and day programs, providing compassionate care, teaching life skills, and ensuring health and safety. This position requires patience, empathy, strong communication skills, and a genuine desire to empower others.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care and support for individuals with disabilities, including assistance with daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation, and medication management.
- Promote community participation and help individuals engage in recreational, social, and educational activities.
- Support individuals in achieving personal goals outlined in their Individual Service Plans (ISPs).
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided, progress notes, and incident reports.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and respectful living environment.
- Advocate for the rights and choices of individuals served.
- Assist with transportation to appointments, jobs, or community outings as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (may be required depending on location).
- Updated DSP training
- Ability to pass background checks and required training.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred but not required.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Work Environment:
- Work may take place in group homes, individual residences, day programs, or community settings.
- May require evening, weekend, and holiday shifts depending on individual needs.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Medication Certifications 1 & 2 (Training provided)
- Reliable transportation
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Ability to provide references
- Strong communication skills with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
Certifications & Training:
- CPR/First Aid certification is required. If you do not have this certification, we offer a class for a fee of $60.
- All necessary training will be provided to help you succeed in the role!
