This is a hands-on leadership role within a long-standing nonprofit thats been serving Humboldt County since 1980. RCAA supports critical programs focused on housing stability, energy assistance, youth services, food security, and environmental stewardshipand behind every successful program is a strong, thoughtful finance team.

About the Role
As Senior Accounting Manager, youll be a key partner to leadershipowning core accounting functions, strengthening processes, and helping ensure the organizations financial health as it continues to grow its impact. This role blends technical accounting, team leadership, and meaningful collaboration across departments.
What Youll Be Doing

Lead day-to-day accounting operations and support the development of accounting staff

Maintain the general ledger and oversee accurate, timely month-end and year-end close

Prepare clear, thoughtful financial reports and presentations for leadership and the Board

Support grant tracking and job costing efforts (training providedcuriosity and willingness to learn are key!)

Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and support audit preparation

Ensure compliance with GAAP, grant requirements, and applicable federal and state regulations

Assist with budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and variance analysis

Help strengthen internal controls and promote consistent, best-practice financial processes across programs
What Were Looking For

Accounting experience in nonprofit, construction, or other multi-funding-source environments

Experience supporting or leading external audits

Strong grant accounting background; openness to learning job costing if not already experienced

Experience with MIP (Abila) or a comparable accounting/ERP system

Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Prior experience leading or mentoring accounting or finance team members
Nice to Have (But Not Required)

Familiarity with GAAP and Single Audit requirements

Experience presenting financial information to executive leadership or boards

Exposure to fund accounting, cost allocation, and multi-program financial structures

Understanding of nonprofit operations and government grant reporting
