What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health Room Assistant position at Northwest R-1 School District?
JOB SUMMARY:
Assist the nurse and the Director of Health and Wellness in the smooth and efficient operation of the school health services in order to realize that services maximum positive impact on the educational environment for students, staff and parents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.
- Administers first aid to ill or injured students and staff according to guidelines set forth by the District Health Services program.
- Maintains daily log of student and staff visitations to the Health Room including the visitors name, time of visit and type of visit in order to compose statistical data. Records visits to the healthroom including date, time, symptoms, and disposition of care.
- Administers appropriate medications in accordance with the District Health Services Program guidelines.
- Follows guidelines set forth by the District Health Services program in deciding if student should be sent home, parents contacted, student referred to the school nurse and/or if other professional help is required.
- Reports to the nurse on health related problems of students and/or students who may need further intervention or assessment.
- Writes and submits to the building principal and the nurse incident reports.
- Assists the nurse with screening routines requested by the nursing supervisor
- Communicates effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Enforces and maintains confidentiality of student information.
- Maintains records and performs clerical work.
- Assists the nurse with other job-related duties in accordance with training and experience.
- Maintains the Health Room and stocks medical supplies.
- Monitors and reports school safety conditions to the building principal.
- Assists the building principal with record keeping and follow up duties as related to student health problems.
- Maintains student’s health and immunization information and records for students new to the district or as deemed necessary by the nurse or building principal, and ensures compliance with all state regulations concerning exclusion of students in noncompliance.
- Reports to parents and appropriate school personnel student health related information in accordance with the District Health Services Program guidelines.
- Performs all duties and responsibilities as described in the Missouri Manual for school Health programs and the Northwest R-1 School District Health Services Handbook..
- Maintains CPR certification.
- Participates in yearly PDC skills training.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- Evidence of current Red Cross First Aid- Course Certification and CPR training.
- Experience with young people.
- Prior experience in a school setting is desired.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
- Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, and interact effectively with all aspects of the school community is required.
- Ability to solve conflicts, maintain confidentiality and remain open to various ideas and viewpoints.
MATHMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations to balance assigned budget items, invoices, bills, purchase orders and other related items.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines while complying with established policies and procedures of the building and district.
- Identifies and resolve problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully; uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
- Ability to concentrate, think, read and learn is necessary to perform the essential job duties.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly sit, talk, listen, and respond. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors. Occasionally, the employee may lift up to 50 pounds, such as, to lift files, papers, and equipment.
