Job Summary
This position provides academic advising services to Northeastern State University students. This job will be located in Broken Arrow campus.
MAJOR DUTIES
Provides students with university admission, registration and academic program information; communicates general policy information and available services to first-year students.
Assists students with the enrollment management processes and with registration.
Provides information on financial aid, counseling services, and other related university resources.
Ensures that students are familiar with the university catalog and other relevant advisement information.
Reviews and updates student information in the BANNER system as appropriate.
Processes transfer credit evaluations; prepares degree audits.
Serves as liaison to instructional departments; facilitates student referrals to appropriate counselor or faculty advisor.
Writes letters of recommendations, scholarship letters, and other school-related correspondence for students.
Monitors student academic progression to ensure the retention standards are retained.
Participates in student recruitment activities.
Facilitates advisement orientation programs.
Performs related duties.
Knowledge Required By The Position
Knowledge of admission, registration and degree program requirements.
Knowledge of academic standards governing the student population.
Knowledge of student recruitment and retention principles.
Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs, including the BANNER system.
Skill in decision making and problem solving.
Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

Guidelines include the university catalog, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act requirements, ORSHE requirements, and CBT Standards of Professional Behavior. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of varied academic advising duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to academic advising to university students. Success in this position contributes to the success of university students.

Contacts are typically with co-workers, other college personnel, students, faculty, and members of the general public.
Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to motivate or influence persons.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk table or while intermittently sitting, standing or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
The work is typically performed in an office.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position may have direct supervision over assigned personnel.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Annual salary $38,112.00 with excellent benefits, including generous leave time.
