Position Summary
The Middle School Science Teacher provides engaging, standards-based instruction that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific literacy. The teacher develops and delivers lessons aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards, creates a positive learning environment, and supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students. The teacher works collaboratively with colleagues, families, and community partners to ensure student success.
The teaching schedule for 26-27 includes three sections of 7th grade science, three sections of 8th grade science and currently includes one section of facilitated learning for high school Computer Science (no special endorsement needed) students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction and Curriculum
- Plan and deliver high-quality science instruction aligned with NGSS Standards.
- Develop lessons that incorporate inquiry-based learning, hands-on investigations, engineering design, and scientific reasoning.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and learning styles.
- Integrate technology and real-world applications into science instruction.
- Differentiate instruction to support students with varying abilities and backgrounds.
Assessment and Student Learning
- Assess student learning through formative and summative measures.
- Analyze student performance data to guide instructional decisions.
- Provide timely and meaningful feedback to students and families.
- Monitor and document student progress toward academic standards.
- Participate in district and state assessment programs as required.
Classroom Environment
- Establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and positive classroom environment.
- Implement effective classroom management practices.
- Promote student engagement, responsibility, and respect.
- Ensure laboratory and classroom safety procedures are followed at all times.
- Maintain inventory and proper use of science equipment and materials.
Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with grade-level and content-area teams to improve instruction and student outcomes.
- Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student progress and concerns.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school events.
- Support school-wide initiatives and improvement efforts.
Professional Responsibilities
- Demonstrate professionalism and ethical conduct consistent with the Iowa Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics.
- Participate in professional development activities.
- Maintain required licensure and endorsements.
- Fulfill assigned supervisory responsibilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.

Qualifications
Required
- Valid Iowa teaching license with appropriate science endorsement
- Ability to successfully complete required background checks
- Complete Teach Iowa Application
- Provide a copy of transcripts
Preferred
- Experience teaching middle school science
- Experience with STEM education and project-based learning
- Experience using instructional technology and data-driven decision making

- Contract days and salary established by the district's negotiated agreement and board policy.
