What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary School Counselor position at Northeast Community School District?
Northeast Elementary is in search of an Elementary School Counselor for the 2026-2027 School Year. A school counselor is responsible for implementing a comprehensive school counseling program aligned to the Iowa School Counseling Framework and ASCA Mindsets and Behaviors for Student Success Standards. Northeast Elementary supports all students through the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework, with a keen focus on the whole child.

An ideal candidate must:
- Work collaboratively with students, teachers, support staff, and administrators to provide instruction in the areas of: academic/behavior skills, self-management skills, & pro-social skills.
- Provide assistance and support to a student or a small group of students during times of transition, heightened stress, critical change, or other situations that impede student success.
- Provide ongoing systemic activities designed to help students establish educational and career goals.
- Be prepared to recognize and respond to students' mental health needs and to assist students and families in seeking resources.
- Oversee the identification, evaluation, and development of 504 plans within the building.
- Be responsible, as District Homeless Liaison, for ensuring that children experiencing homelessness receive their educational rights/services.
- Demonstrate the ability to problem-solve collaboratively, remain confidential, and maintain the utmost integrity while working with various stakeholders.
- Demonstrate flexibility, self-motivation, and enthusiasm for supporting a building-wide system of Social Emotional Behavior Health Supports.
- Maintain a classroom environment for counseling lessons that is safe and conducive to student learning (Experience with PBIS preferred).
- Strive for continued professional improvement & continuous inquiry.
