What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Technical Specialist position at NJ Transit?

MAIN FUNCTIONS:
- Works in the development and integration of all on-board electronic equipment, with a primary focus on fare collection, radio, destination signs, EZ-Pass, Intelligent Vehicle Network in the NJ TRANSIT bus fleet. Forecast expenditures; develops preliminary budgets and schedules and approves submittals.
- Develops and implements standard operating procedures; provides technical trainings; resolves technical questions; analyzes data, prepares reports to identify trends, makes recommendations and implements corrective actions.
- Researches and evaluates existing technologies on-board the NJ TRANSIT bus fleet.
- Stays abreast of current and new technologies in the existing on-board systems.
- Plans, coordinates, and approves testing of systems' software and ensures conformance to design and NJ TRANSIT standards and regulations.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science or related area, and five (5) years of applied progressive experience.
- Experience in computer networks or related discipline is desirable.
- Background using a Learning Management System (LMS) for administrative purposes.
- One year of closely related experience can be substituted for each year of education required.
- Experience with payroll preparation and creating electronic requisitions a plus.
- Must have project management skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Must be available for on call after hours.
- Experience creating and/or monitoring learning metrics.
