We are currently hiring for the position of Engineer – Transport III (Long Distance)
Location: Remote
Work Schedule: Must be able to work any shift in a 24x7 rotational schedule
Shift: Day Shift | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (No weekends, no on-call)
🔍 ROLE OVERVIEW
The Long Distance (LD) Transport Engineer will support Long Distance engineering organization, focusing on Ultra Long Haul (ULH) and OTN mesh networks. This role is closely aligned with Detail Engineering and requires candidates who can quickly take ownership of tasks and drive them to completion with minimal supervision.
🛠️ TECHNICAL FOCUS
- ULH (Ultra Long Haul) transport engineering
- OTN mesh network design and implementation
- Fixed grid, flex grid, and next-generation LD ULH transport deployments
- Monitoring, planning, implementation, testing, and turn-up of LD networks

✅ MUST-HAVE SKILLS
- 5 years of experience in the telecommunications industry
- Strong LD / ULH transport engineering experience
- Hands-on knowledge of OTN mesh and WDM networks
- Experience engineering and designing ULH transport systems
- Ability to manage complex processes and deliver results independently
- Strong Windows and corporate database system experience

- Prior Long Distance (LD) experience (ULA strongly preferred)
- Strong understanding of engineering specs and drawings
- Legacy network operating system experience
- Equipment inventory and network design knowledge
- Risk assessment and mitigation skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset
📋 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Engineer LD ULH transport builds and overbuilds
- Monitor and plan LD network utilization and expansion
- Respond to high-failure system outages and escalations
- Support site decommissioning and equipment power-down activities
- Free up space and power for network growth
- Maintain accurate equipment inventory and provisioning databases
- Perform database cleanup to ensure system integrity
- Coordinate with peers to ensure on-time delivery
- Stay current with evolving transport technologies
🎓 EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years of telecom engineering experience
