Role Overview
We are seeking a Data Center Optical Engineer to support hyperscale data center operations in Lewisville, TX. This role is critical to ensuring the reliability and performance of optical transport, IP networking, and data center infrastructure.
This is a hands-on opportunity to work with 10G–100G optical circuits, industry-standard testing tools, and large-scale data center systems while collaborating with internal teams, customers, and on-site vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide break-fix support for optical and transport network equipment
- Perform remote hands services per MOPs and engineering documentation
- Install, route, label, terminate, and test fiber and Ethernet cabling
- Conduct optical testing and circuit turn-ups
- Rack, stack, cable, and organize data center equipment
- Support decommissioning and secure hardware removal
- Perform network and IT hardware replacements
- Manage AC/DC power systems, including redundancy and ATS
- Conduct site audits and document findings
- Oversee third-party vendors on-site
- Maintain accurate documentation and comply with safety standards
Required Skills & Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in data center operations or similar environments
- Hands-on experience with break-fix, remote hands, and hardware replacement
- Strong knowledge of optical and IP transport networks
- Experience with fiber and Ethernet cabling (CAT5/6, SM/MM fiber, RJ45, LC)
- Experience executing Methods of Procedure (MOPs)
- Hands-on experience with optical testing tools:
- OTDR
- Optical power meter
- Stabilized light source
- VFL
- Knowledge of AC/DC power systems, redundancy, and ATS
- Ability to work shift schedules, including nights and weekends
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
- Team lead or senior technician experience
- Hyperscale or large enterprise data center experience
- Experience testing 10G / 100G circuits (BERT, RFC2544, EtherSAM/Y.1564, iPerf)
- Familiarity with transport routers, switches, and servers
- Experience managing third-party vendors
- Strong customer-facing communication skills
- Familiarity with hyperscale tools, systems, and ticketing platforms
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights
- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions
