Data Center Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a hands-on Data Center Optical Engineer to support the installation, operation, and troubleshooting of optical and network infrastructure in large-scale data center environments. This role focuses on racking, cabling, optical testing, break-fix support, and remote hands services while meeting strict SLAs and customer quality standards.
This is an on-site role with shift flexibility, including nights and weekends as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform break-fix, troubleshooting, and hardware replacement for optical, network, and IT equipment.
- Provide remote hands support by executing MOPs, engineering documentation, and vendor procedures.
- Rack, stack, cable, label, and decommission data center equipment.
- Test and turn up 10G–100G circuits using OTDR, power meters, BERT, RFC2544, Y.1564, and iPerf.
- Install and troubleshoot fiber and copper cabling (SM/MM, CAT5/6, LC, RJ45).
- Support AC/DC power systems, redundancy, and hot/cold aisle management.
- Conduct site audits and maintain accurate documentation.
- Coordinate with internal teams, customers, and on-site vendors to meet SLAs.
Must-Have Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in data center operations or optical/network support.
- Hands-on experience with racking, cabling, break-fix, and optical testing.
- Working knowledge of Ethernet, IP, and optical transport networks.
- Ability to read and execute MOPs and technical documentation.
- Comfortable working in data halls, at heights, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
