Senior Accounts Payable Specialist – Construction (Multi-Company Environment)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Job Summary
We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Senior Accounts Payable Specialist to support our construction operations within a conglomerate of multiple affiliated companies. This role is ideal for an experienced AP professional who can independently manage full-cycle accounts payable across various companies and job sites in a fast-paced construction environment. You will ensure timely and accurate payments, maintain strong vendor and subcontractor relationships, and support month-end close while adhering to internal controls and industry best practices.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Independently process and verify high-volume invoices across multiple construction companies
- Review invoices for accuracy, proper coding, and job and cost allocation
- Perform vendor statement and account reconciliations; resolve discrepancies promptly
- Serve as the primary point of contact for vendor and subcontractor payment inquiries
- Prepare and process check runs and ACH payments for multiple entities
- Support month-end close by reconciling accounts payable sub-ledgers to the general ledger
- Maintain organized and compliant AP records, including lien waivers, supporting documentation, and approvals
- Assist with audit requests and internal reporting as needed
- Identify and recommend process improvements to improve efficiency across entities
Skills & Qualifications
- 5 years of Accounts Payable experience, preferably in construction
- Experience working in a multi-company or conglomerate environment
- Strong understanding of construction AP processes, including job costing
- Proven ability to manage high-volume invoices across multiple entities
- Proficiency with accounting software; QuickBooks experience preferred
- Strong reconciliation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Efficient 10-key typing skills
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently without staff oversight
