Duties
The Assistant Architect, under direction, with broad scope for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment, will serve as the division's assistant architect in support of major administrative, architectural and engineering functions relating to compliance with the building codes, major design, field division, or equivalent, and as a professional assistant on major architectural matters to the agency. The selected candidate will perform specific duties, which include, but are not limited to:

- Measure and document existing built conditions including architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection elements.
- Document existing conditions to NYPD graphics standards with comprehensive identification of all elements and system components.
- Identify, assess, and document deteriorated and substandard conditions with detail, and provide resolutions of improvements.
- Review local laws, violations and filing requirements with authorities having jurisdiction and associated data.
- Take the lead on preparation of detail sketches or layouts, analyses of the spatial organization and efficient utilization of major building components and structures, functional arrangement of interior units, utilities and appurtenances.
- Prepare specifications, cost estimates and quantity take-offs, completes various forms and applications.
- Ensure timely and complete project delivery.
- Evaluate bids, contractors and consultants’ performance to recommend award of contracts for architectural projects as well as reviews submittals, shop drawings, invoices and requests for information.
- Assist administrative architectural and engineering staff with all related work.

ASSISTANT ARCHITECT - 21210
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor or a Master of Architecture degree that is the first professional degree in architecture from an accredited college; or
- A Bachelor of Science degree in architecture that is the first four years of a five-year first professional degree program in architecture from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in architectural work; or
- A valid New York State Registration as an Architect.
