What are the responsibilities and job description for the Village Care Attendant position at New Horizons, Inc.?
Opened in 1986, New Horizons Village is a welcoming apartment complex, offering adults with physical disabilities the opportunity for self-directed living. We are located on 26 picturesque acres in a quiet residential neighborhood in the Farmington Valley. The village is just twenty minutes southwest of Hartford.
New Horizon’s mission is to provide affordable housing, accessible transportation, other support services, short-term and outpatient medical rehabilitation, and long-term skilled nursing in supportive communities of care and enable seniors, adults with disabilities and individuals facing challenges to achieve their goals and live life as independently and joyfully as possible.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Providing essential personal care assistance to tenants with physical disabilities in the absence of their PCA and in cases of unanticipated needs or emergencies.
- Recordkeeping for all calls that are responded to.
- Carrying out facility emergency procedures, as needed
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works in the VCA office area as well as throughout the facility and its premises.
- Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.
EDUCATION:
- CNA or HHA preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with responsible care-giving skills in Human Services Field.
- CPR and First Aid Certification required or must be obtained within first 6 months of employment.
- N95 Fit Test Clearance required upon hire.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to keep tenant information confidential at all times.
- Team oriented with good communication skills.
- Dependable and reliable.
- Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult tenants.
- Must be able to push, pull, and do heavy lifting without restrictions up to 51 pounds.
- Must have working knowledge of hoist equipment.
