Medical Laboratory Scientist II
Location: Chapel Hill, NC
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Schedule: Friday-Monday, 9:30 PM-7:30 AM
Pay: $30 - $45/hr
Sign-On Bonus: $10,000
Position Summary
Seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist II to join a hospital-based Transfusion Medicine/Blood Bank team. The role involves high-complexity laboratory testing, troubleshooting, quality control, and supporting safe and timely patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform Blood Bank and Transfusion Medicine testing.
- Handle Type & Screen, Antibody Identification, DAT, Eluate, Phenotyping and Antigen Typing.
- Perform crossmatching and blood product preparation/modifications.
- Support Massive Transfusion Protocols and emergency-release procedures.
- Perform quality control, calibration and equipment maintenance.
- Troubleshoot testing, specimens, instruments and workflow issues.
- Review and report accurate laboratory results.
- Maintain compliance with laboratory and safety standards.
- Assist with training and competency of laboratory staff.
Requirements
- Active ASCP or AMT MLS/MT certification, or qualifying MLT certification.
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in an applicable laboratory science field.
- 2 years of clinical laboratory experience for the MLT pathway.
- Hands-on Blood Bank/Transfusion Medicine experience preferred.
- Ability to work independently in a high-complexity hospital laboratory.
- Must be comfortable working the Friday-Monday overnight schedule.
